“The figures, forms and backgrounds are depicted in a codified and serialised way in which they blur the boundaries between graphic representation and non-objective art. The umbrellas, towels and surfboards act as chromatic punctuation marks and the overall flattened representation gives the images an iconic monumentality.”
Celebrated Australian artist John Aslanidis
About his work, Mitch says:
"I've always been obsessed with the freedom that you feel when there's nothing between you and the elements but a pair of swimmers.
I'm particularly interested in that at a shared, community, cultural level. In Australia, there is no class divide on our beaches. Privilege and privatism have no role there. Bliss."
